Just over a week ago it was really warm here in Toronto and I was starting to think we’d have to wait until January to get any local snowboarding done. Last winter we thought we were super lucky when Horseshoe Resort in Barrie had 2 runs open on November 24th so we thought we were dreaming when Horseshoe and Mount St Louis opened on November 21st this year. Since I hate Horseshoe Resort and love Mount St Louis Moonstone we decided to go to Mount St Louis on Saturday, November 22nd, 2008.
The entire hill was covered in snow and they had 6 runs open, it wasn’t like any early opening I have ever seen, the conditions were as good as they are in the middle of the season and the lift lines were super short. At one point we had a group of 10 riding/skiing, it was a good time.
That’s it, we beat last year by 2 days and it feels good…
Found your blog by accident while looking for pics. from opening day. Love Moonstone too, even though the snow seemed groomed to death. Thank you for your review of Horseshoe. They have so many specials, however; you described my nightmare conditions, so I will be sure not to go there.
